THREE ROOMS · OLD TOWN KRAKÓW

“Might just be my favourite cafe in the world.”

The Washington Post — 16 August 1998

A table for two perched in Camelot Cafe’s tall street-facing window.

Three rooms off a cobbled lane — one with a table perched in the window, like eating on a stage — a thirteenth-century cellar below, and the most famous apple pie in the city.

THREE ROOMS

A stage set, then a cafe

At the start of the twentieth century these rooms were a house of pleasure, remembered wistfully by Kraków's artists. When the building fell into ruin, its walls became a film set — the cult 1960s film Awantura o Basię was shot here. Below, the thirteenth-century cellars now host the Loch Camelot theatre, concerts and recitals.

Three rooms

The cafe spreads over three rooms: pink walls, old stoves, candlelight, and naive-art figures leaning against the walls. One room holds the famous window table — perched in the window itself, if you feel like eating on a stage.

The kitchen today

Chefs Justyna and Anastazja run the kitchen with a young team. The pierogi are made from Monday to Sunday, the pastas come in the same cream sauces as always, and the szarlotka — grey rennet apples, served hot — is the one the city calls its most famous.

KIND WORDS

“Turned out to be the best breakfast in a long time.”

“The eclectic decor and furnishings don't look as if they've changed since the 1920s and this adds to the wonderful atmosphere.”

“Highly suggested for a quiet morning in the city center. The hidden little garden in the back is quite nice too.”
